nellos is a great place to eat. ive been going about 3 times a week for the last two years. long live Nellos

Indeed, all the Nello's locations are independently managed so specific locations may bring different service experiences, but the food is always top-notch. My new favorite location is in Old Town Scottsdale on First Ave just east of Scottsdale Rd. They have put much time and effort into quality staff, best service and an appropriate wine list!

Nellos has great pizza, great salads, great staff. they were very busy last time I went. A packed resturant is a good enough sign for great food. all thoes people cant be wrong

I recently went to Nellos for the first time last week in old town scottsdale(by the way its not listed on this locations page) and I can say I I had one of the best experiences of my life. First of I was greeted by a very friendly and proper bartender named Eric. then we sat and were taken care of, almost pamperd by what seemed to me to be the nicest waitress ive ever met. I think her name was Tracy. when I recieved my thin crust pesto chicken pizza It was not only the best pizza Ive ever had, it was probaly the best food ive ever tasted. When I recieved the bill my jaw almost dropped. I ended up paying next to nothing for what I thought should have been a very expensive meal. People have mentioned Nellos to me over the years and now I know why. Two snaps up and a circle.

James was right. I recently went to the New location in Old Town and they have a great wine list to choose from and the same great food. Can never argue with Nello's! It is the best.

There are many interesting reports of Nello's here, but I find most of them to be a bit uptight. I have been going to Nello's since the mid 80's and the cool thing about it is that IT IS a family owned restaurant. Which means a more relaxed atmosphere. I suggest to all naysayers that sitting down, relaxing at the bar and having a great glass of wine would be the first place to start. Then kick back and enjoy good service, great food and atmosphere. There is not an item on the menu I would not eat. Relax and have a drink!!

nello's plain pizza reminds me of elio's frozen pizzas from my youth. except, elio's was square and, if memory serves me correct, they had a little flavor in the sauce. the old world salad had cucumbers with a thicker than normal skin on them. it's always fun choking down cucumber skin. there was more to this, but no one is reading this. i wanted to email the restaurant with a picture, but they had no website / email eddress.

In my girlfriend's and my experience at Nellos in Tempe, several things went wrong. First we ordered two drinks which were both 86ed. Then we ordered garlic bread that was not delivered as an appetizer, the server who had about 3 tables of two at the time forgot to bring it out. She had taken a moment to upsell the garlic bread appetizer by adding cheese and tomatoes and forgot to ring that in as well. ( finally when it came after our entrees ). When my girlfriend inquired about the soup, the server laughed and said that they were out of that too. Not to mention the food was poor quality, but not quite as bad as the service. We had eaten at this Nello's once before, probably about 5 months ago and had a similar experience. We decided to give it one more chance, thinking that our previous dining experience was not a good representation of the restaurant. Come to find out that even when the restaurant was nearly empty, the service was worse than the first time we came in and the food didn't please us any more either. Both, my girlfriend and I work in restaurants. She works in the front of the house and I work in the back. When we left, we both agreed that that was probably the worst dining experience we've ever had.

The Nello's at Alma School/Guadalupe is out of this world! The service is excellent and the food is even better. Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at the other restaurants. Try this location - you won't regret it.

I love Nellos pizza and have been a loyal customer for over 10 years. Just recently, a new owner took over replacing one of the greatest individuals I have ever met. This new owner needs a lesson in restaurant management, as well as overall people skills. He has managed to hire some of the worst servers i have ever seen or had the displeasure of being helped by. Since he has taken over i have been in at least a dozen times. I have only had one pleasent visit, that was with the enthusiastic bartender,and our sever (Lisa) she was extremely polite and helpful.The food is still very tasty, so the kitchen staff for the most is still up to par. I will continue to frequent the Southern & McClintock location only in hopes that my visits will continue to be as pleasent as the one i mentioned in this testimony. loyal

Apparently, Jack in PA (or wherever he claims to be) may have multiple personalities. He is posting on various sites his need for Nello's pizza to be shipped to him in PA, but then posts a scathing comment about his experience at the restaurant three weeks ago. Dude, get some counseling...you need that more than pizza right now.

Nello's does have pizza that is quite good, in a town notable for its homoginezed atmosphere, be it culturally, musically or gastronomically. However, the arrogance mentioned earlier is rife in another location: McClintock and Southern. I have eaten there at least twenty times over the past five years. Generally, the service is adequate. Yet, three weeks ago I had this experience: we get there at 9:45, 15 minutes before the posted time for closing. We are told that the kitchen has just closed. I ask if the signage is correct relative to the time of closure and, from the patio bar, comes a loud "the kitchen's closed because I am done." This followed by laughter from the table-mates of the guy who made said statement. He then went on to mention that the beer he had just poured himself wasn't going to be the last and that we should find somewhere else to grab a bite to eat. This was the "chef." In this day of competition, I would almost forego shoe leather in a steak house if the service was good. In this case, Nello's may have seen the last of someone who has been a loyal customer, primarily becuase of the "chef" who was an a**hole.

I just read the comments on this web site while I was looking for the phone number to my favorite Nello's located at Warner and 48th Street at the Ahwatukee Foothills of Phoenix. I would like readers to know that the Nello's restaurants are owned and operated independently (formerly all four locations were owned by four brothers- I think one is out of the family now). I have never had a poor experience at the location in Phoenix, but I assure you, the management there makes all the difference. Like so many, I enjoy Nello's for the food (I recommend the Enchilada Pizza on thin crust- what a kick!), but I continue going back for the great service. To the few folks that contributed comments that were not positive, I encourage you to let the management at the Scottsdale location know what went wrong so they can address it with their staff. I have gone to Nello's many times in the last few years, and every time, usually with a party of two, we have had good service. Maybe if you had not sat down at the bar, Scott, the hostess would have noticed you sooner. I just don't understand why it is that you three people have had so much trouble with them. I think they have good enough service and food that is great.

Went into Nello's on Shea. First time in a Nellos. No one greated me, and/or aknowledged that I was even there. I grabbed my own takeout menu, and went and sat up at the bar since there were a couple of people up there already. This is after the "Hostess" came back to her station and stared at me a few times and still did not say a word to me. I approached the bar, and someone FINALLY said "Have you been helped?" To which I replied, "Nope, Not at All!" I finally placed my order for a salad w/chicken. I got the salad, but no chicken. I asked where the chicken was and the lady was looking at my salad going it is right there. Sad she didn't know the difference between Chicken and a walnut! I questioned it again, and they finally got my chicken. No one really checked on me to see how the food was, and/or if I needed anything. As mentioned before, food was great, but service was lousy! Definitely a takeout place.

Mike your experience is not unique. I've encountered the same inconsiderations at other restaurants I have frequented. However, Nellos pizza is fantastic and as you mentioned out of this world. Perhaps that is why they can afford this arrogance and simply treat customers like dirt because their food is what keeps people coming back. It's a high price to pay, but I think I will stick to take-out only and remove the inconsiderate dining experience from the equation.

The food is out of this world. The service was not something I would not want repeated if we were counting on repaet biz. We were not treated as though they wanted us to return. Alarge party was seated before us. The excuse was that it was easier to do this than to seperate thier group. I may not return for another bald faced lye. We are just another family of three who was stiffed for a larger party. Thisis really sad.
